HARPENDEN: Making maths fun was the aim for Robert Eastaway when he visited a town school to talk to students about the bearing the subject has on popular TV game shows.
Robert, director of Maths Inspiration, a national programme of lectures for teenagers which involves some of the UK’s leading maths speakers, gave a talk to Years Nine, 10 and 11 at Roundwood Park School.
Students were riveted by the mix of maths theory and the real world practicalities of winning on game shows.
Year 11 student, Eleanor Lavender, said: “It was very interesting and easy to relate to the real world. I especially liked understanding the strategy for how to win the most money on The Weakest Link.”
Roundwood’s head of maths, Jarrod Keegan, added: “Rob Eastaway made sure that our students saw a different side to the maths that they learn ever day; they were left convinced that maths is fun, interesting and sometimes quite surprising!”
