Pupils and teachers at London Colney Primary School have started wearing slippers to class, inspired by a Scandinavian initiative.

Headteacher Sarah Joyce researched slipper-wearing during lesson time and read about the benefits for pupils before adopting the approach throughout the school.

In Scandinavia, studies have shown that wearing slippers can create a calmer learning environment in which children are more willing to learn.

Mrs Joyce said: “The evidence was so compelling and the school community embraced the idea and were all very keen to take part so we decided to go ahead and trial it.

“So many of the children are now wearing their slippers to school and we have seen a wonderful array of slippers too.”

Bibi in Year 4 said: “Normal shoes are quite uncomfortable and I like to take them off, however slippers are comfortable which I like.”
