WITH cricket on the up following the Ashes success, a Harpenden School is installing new nets after winning a 16,000 sports grant.
The grant was made to Roundwood Park School and put together by the 7-Up Student Group set up in partnership with local sports funding consultant Amanda Bate.
The team of students who make up the 7-Up group were Lucy and James Morehen, Emma Gibbs, Elliot Jones, Billie Allison and Laura Fulham.
The grant application involved collaborating with local groups to identify sporting opportunities which would benefit students and the local community the most.
The cricket nets are currently under construction and are due to be opened at the same time as the school’s brand-new 2.8-million sports hall by late May this year.
Free coaching sessions for under 18s in the local community will be available at the school next summer with the coaching delivered by students who have completed leadership training.
