A planning application has been put forward for a new library at High Beeches Primary School in Harpenden.

The application has been submitted by the school’s chair of governors Julia Higgins, and proposes installing a single-storey prefabricated building with 71 square metres of floorspace off of Aldwickbury Crescent.

The new library, if approved by the district council, would be open to both pupils and the public.

Ms Higgins said: “In two years we will be full and all our library facilities will be full so the school and governors decided to fundraise for a library facility.

“Now we are an outstanding school we wanted to do it ourselves.”

The consultation on the school’s plans end on May 9. To make a comment on the plans, visit www.stalbans.gov.uk and search for reference 5/2018/0636 on the planning page.
