A HARPENDEN nursery celebrated its 20th birthday this week with 20 fun and quirky events to commemorate their achievements.

Riverbanks Nursery School was set up on October 20, 1990, by Shirley Hayman with just two teachers and four children. Now in its 20th year, Shirley’s vision of providing young children with the opportunity to play, socialise and learn continues with 90 children on the roll, ranging from two to five years old, and 15 teachers.

Throughout the last week, children and staff have enjoyed a party, a cake, created a collage and planted 20 trees.

They’ve also had visits from ex-Riverbanks pupils keen to share their memories of their time at Riverbanks, although some of these ex students have now graduated from university.

Shirley said it was wonderful to celebrate such an achievement and that she still felt passionate about providing great quality and forward-thinking care for young children.
