A former Harpenden classical musician who became a teacher is encouraging other people looking at changing careers to set their sights on the classroom.
Nicola Popplewell, who teaches music at Sir John Lawes School, left her career as a classical musician in 2016. She is now supporting the ‘Get Into Teaching’ national campaign, which encourages prospective candidates to learn more about teaching as a career and access support throughout the application process.
According to the campaign’s spokesman, January is a popular time of year for career changes.
Nicola said: ““I’d always been intrigued by teaching and imagined it to be a very rewarding career. After six years as a professional oboist and working as a peripatetic music teacher I saw the impact my colleagues in school had on the students. .
“Teaching at my school in Harpenden really makes me proud and brings daily rewards.”
