A pack of guide dogs came to Oaklands College recently to give the students an experience of being visually-impared.

Guide Dogs UK worked with the college and apprentice Kate Vallory to put on a host of activities for students and staff to enjoy and learn from.

The event raised £600 for Guide Dogs UK with activities as varied as blind cake tasting, Braille activities, and sight goggles.

Head of student services Gayle Brown said: “We are thrilled with the money raised, but equally thankful for the opportunity the event has given to spark some positive discussion around sight loss and visual impairment.”

Kate, who is often seen around campus with her guide dog Becket, set up the event to help people understand visual impairment, and show them what support is available.
