A local secondary school has maintained its ‘good’ designation after its latest Ofsted report, with some aspects being deemed ‘outstanding’.

The inspectors report on Verulam School in Brampton Road said: “Teaching is consistently good, and some teaching is outstanding. Teachers have good subject knowledge and plan their lessons very carefully.

“Students join the school with broadly average prior attainment. Consistently good teaching, supported by students’ own positive attitudes to learning, enables them to progress well.

“In 2013, most students made expected progress and a majority made better than expected progress in English and mathematics.”

Headmaster Paul Ramsey said: “I am delighted that Ofsted has recognised the good progress we have made since the last inspection.

“The teaching and learning, including Sixth Form, is now consistently good and some is outstanding.

“I am very proud that the pupils were described as mature, courteous, polite, friendly and that the school’s engagement with parents was described as outstanding.”
