OVER a thousand students gathered at Oaklands College in St Albans yesterday (Thursday) to take part in the final of the Hertfordshire School Games.
Eight primary and secondary schools from St Albans took part in the competition, which is now in its third year.
Pupils competed in seven different sports - fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, rugby, cricket and tennis.
It is the first time the major event has been hosted at the College’s Smallford campus, Hatfield Road.
A spokeswoman said: “We gave over 1,000 students access to our grounds and new facilities because we want to share them with the local community as much as possible.”
