Drumming followed by a rock rendition of Shakespeare greeted the official opening of a newly-refurbished school garden and playground.
Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Nicola Linacre, officially opened the new-look playground and garden at St Nicholas JMI in the town last Thursday, July 21.
The Year 3 drumming group got proceedings underway followed by the school choir giving their rock rendition of Shakespeare.
The school council, under the direction of Mrs Ruth Kieran, explored different options during the designing process. They consulted with each class in order to gather suggestions on how to improve the garden which now includes a performance stage, music area and climbing equipment. There is also a bug hotel where children can observe living creatures.
The Mayor said, ‘I was delighted to be part of celebrating the new play equipment at St Nicholas School. Congratulations to the PTA for raising all the money needed and helping to make such a fantastic new area for the children to enjoy.’
And headteacher Mrs Rizelle Crouch added: “It is wonderful to have fantastic additions to the outdoor space and we are very grateful for the amazing support from the PTA and the parents.”
