Youth town council member, Olivia Brown, has received a Diana Award after being nominated in the active campaigner award category.
The Year 11 student at Sir John Lawes in Harpenden, was nominated for the work she has been doing with the town’s youth council and in school to educate her peers and parents about the mental health issues that affect young people of their age.
In the last few years she has engaged in local issues both in the community and in school and has shown a desire to improve the lives of young people particularly in relation to their emotional well-being.
The Diana Award is a legacy to Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. They identify and develop young people, then engage them in social action.
Olivia said of her award win: “At the awards event the winners’ stories were read as the awards were being collected and it was inspirational to hear about all of the work that other young people have been doing.
“It is an amazing recognition of achievement and something that I will always be very proud of.”
