Over 100 Year 4 pupils took part in a wide range of sporting activities in St Albans recently as part of celebrations ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Oaklands College held its fifth annual school games for 19 local primary schools at its Smallford Campus, Hatfield Road.

Activities included cheerleading, rugby, archery, golf, football, basketball, rowing and athletics.

The majority of the events were overseen by the college’s academy students who demonstrated their sporting expertise by running the athletics, basketball, football and rugby activities.

Meanwhile, young sports leaders from Nicholas Breakspear school and other providers oversaw other activities including archery.

Co-organiser of the day Tanya Angus said: “The sun was out, the games fantastic, and the children enjoyed every minute. To see so many children engaged in the variety of activities and really enjoying themselves makes me excited for next year.”

College principal Zoe Hancock said: “We are proud to be able to provide such a great day for the local primary schools.”
