A RENOWNED children’s author received a huge welcome when he visited a primary school in Chiswell Green.

Michael Rosen, the former Children’s Laureate, visited pupils at Killigrew Nursery and Primary School as part of an annual event aimed at nurturing a love of reading amongst pupils.

The visit had taken two years for the school to arrange and during the day Michael took part in an assembly for Year Two pupils through to Year Six, taught a poetry workshop class for Year Fives and also signed books in a session which was scheduled for one hour but due to demand ran on for around two and a half hours.

Emma Thomas-Sloley, the school’s English co-ordinator, said the reaction to the visit was in part due to the Michael Rosen fever the school had drummed up before his visit.

She said: “The children were completely engaged and thought that Michael was fantastic, and as a result of this Michael Rosen fever will live on forever at our school.”
