A NEW collection of books targeted at young adults has been launched at the St Albans central library in The Maltings.

Aimed at 16 to 25 year olds, the selection of books caters for those moving on from novels aimed at teens onto more mature titles and follows on from the success of a project at Hemel Hempstead library during which young adults interested in reading volunteered to select titles they thought would be of interest to their peers.

Books in the collection include Ben Elton’s Dead Famous, Starting Over by Tony Parsons and Aldous Huxley’s seminal classic Brave New World.

The collection was launched last Wednesday and within a week of its launch half of the books in the collection had already been loaned out.

Karen Stephens, young people services librarian at St Albans, said: “Librarians need to buy books relevant to their members, so the good thing about this is it was a nice targeted approach. Books chosen by young people for young people.”
