STUDENTS at a Harpenden school who had an unexpected early holiday when the boiler burst will be back on the premises tomorrow. (wed).

A pressure leak in one of the three main boilers at St George’s in Sun Lane caused it to burst on Friday, December 3, leaving the school with only one working boiler which it was unable to guarantee could heat the entire building.

So while pupils sitting mock exams and older students went in as normal, many of those in the lower years were advised not to turn up until advised by head Norman Hoare.

Engineers have now repaired the second boiler which was damaged when the first one burst and the school will be back to normal with pupils working full days tomorrow and Thursday and coming in for part of the morning on the last day of term on Friday..

Mr Hoare told parents today that engineers had repaired the second damaged boiler in the boiler house and the one which burst would be replaced. He was confident that all classrooms and other areas would be served by the same level of heating as if there were three boilers operating even if the weather deteriorated again.
