An author has paid a visit to two St Albans schools to talk about her new novel.
Emily Thomas’ Mud is a semi-autobiographical story about a girl growing up in a barge moored on a muddy bank on the Thames, something Emily herself did.
She visited St Albans Girls School and Nicholas Breakspear School to discuss the book with the pupils.
STAGS Year 8 pupil Sadie Bell-Blakely said: “Having heard how hard it is to live on a boat, it makes me very grateful for my lifestyle and all that I have now.”
The book’s protagonist is Lydia, whose mother died two years before the book starts, whose father announces they are moving to the barge with his girlfriend and her kids.
Before she died, her mother gave Lydia a diary for her birthday and told her to write down anything of note, extracts of which are what make up the book.
