Harpenden schools scored highly in the recent education progress tables which ranked schools according to the new ‘Progress 8’ system.
St George’s School in Sun Lane scored well above average in the rankings, with a Progress 8 score of 0.65. Eighty-one percent of pupils achieved Grade 5 or above in GCSE English and maths, the equivalent of an A* to C grade. Ninety-nine per cent of pupils are going into further education or employment after finishing GCSEs.
Other Harpenden schools also scored above average. Sir John Lawes School in Manland Way scored 0.34 in the Progress 8 rankings, with 57 per cent of pupils achieving Grade 5 or above in English and maths. Ninety-seven per cent of pupils are continuing into further education and employment. Roundwood Park was above average, with a 0.2 Progress 8 score. Sixty-three per cent of pupils achieved Grade 5 or above in English and maths, and 99 per cent of pupils continuing with education or employment.
