A POLICE helicopter circling St Albans in the early hours of Monday morning was trying to trace a car thief.

St Albans Police called in the help of a Met helicopter to help locate a red Ford Escort, which was stolen from Colney Heath Lane just before 4am.

A 20-year-old woman from St Albans was arrested after a successful car chase but after a brief period in custody she was released. Police are currently searching for the second passenger, a man who managed to escape.
