Dog lovers will be able to learn more about caring for their four-legged friends at an event being attended by a series of animal organisations and charities.
The “dog day” is being held at Christopher Place, in St Albans, on Saturday, July 8, between 10.30am and 4pm.
Animal handlers from the Glendee Rescue charity will be on the mall and ready to answer questions about adopting a rescue animal. The charity currently has a number of dogs looking for a permanent home and will be selling dog-related items.
Charity Pets as Therapy, which organises pet visits for people in need, will also be at the event. Their team of volunteers share their time and pets with those who could benefit from an animal, which could be an older person in residential care or a child who is being helped to read through their read2dog scheme. The organisation is currently looking for more volunteers to join its team.
Guide Dogs for the Blind will be on the mall with one of its dogs currently in training.
Retailers exhibiting in Christopher Place include Paw Bakes, The Urban Terrier, Broughton & Co and Photographic Synergy.
Centre manager Catherine Morris, who adopted her dog Ted recently, said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring together a number of animal charities to the centre to help raise awareness of responsible dog ownership.”
