Cast members from the First World War play Journey’s End gathered at Devil’s Dyke near Wheathampstead to reenact a historic photo.
Nine out of the ten cast members, from the Mesh Theatre Company, gathered at the dyke at 2pm on Tuesday, September 26. They wore full, authentic WWI uniforms, provided by Khaki Devil. The actors sang and whistled in character before the photoshoot.
Toby Harris, of Mesh Theatre Company, said: “It went really well. It was really nice to see the cast on a trip and getting a break from being in rehearsal. Some passers-by were intrigued as to what was going on, sparking one construction worker working close by to ask what all the noise was about.”
The play is being performed on location at Ypres from Tuesday, October 10 to Sunday, November 12. It is being performed at the Belgian battlefield for the first time to mark 100 years since the Battle of Passchendaele.
