A PROPERTY developer has once again gone to appeal in a bid to build on the communal gardens of a block of flats.
Grocola has appealed against the district council's refusal of a planning application to build a two-storey block of seven flats on land at The Ridgeway in Marshalswick. It is the fourth unsuccessful application by Grocola which owns the freehold of strips of land around the perimeter of the 124 flats.
The council refused permission because they felt the new flats would not sit well with the existing apartments and the likely impact on the road network, education and leisure provision which Grocola had not provided measures to mitigate. But in its grounds for appeal, Grocola maintains the new block of flats has been substantially reduced compared to previous two three-storey schemes dismissed at appeal. They agreed to make a �5,000 contribution to ease traffic problems but had not been asked to contribute to education and leisure. The hearing date has not been released.
