A 24-year-old man has been prosecuted by the district council for breaching a noise abatement notice aimed at stopping him playing loud amplified music and shouting at his St Albans home.

Anthony Murphy, of Hudson Close, was given a three year conditional discharge at St Albans Magistrates Court on January 31 after pleading guilty to breaching an abatement notice on March 20 last year.

In mitigation, Murphy’s solicitors Blavo and Co, said he was unemployed and suffering from depression at the time the offence took place.

Murphy, who did not plead guilty until the day of the hearing, was ordered to pay the council’s costs of 1,300 in bringing the prosecution.

Cllr Chris Oxley, the council’s portfolio holder for community engagement and support, said they would always take action to try and prevent excessive noise that was disturbing residents and subjecting them to stress.

He added: “It is important that everyone pays regard to their surroundings and their neighbours wherever they live in the community and whatever their personal circumstances.”
