COMMUTERS experienced up to 30 minutes of delays this morning when engineering works overran.

Network Rail had been completing maintenance work on the slow lines between Radlett and Borehamwood and were due to return the lines back to First Capital Connect at 5am.

The hand-over was delayed by two hours and 45 minutes, during which only the fast lines were running. This caused disruption and delays between St Albans and West Hampstead, with delays ranging from 10 minutes to half an hour.

First Capital Connect have apologised for the delays and any confusion caused by the work. They said that Network Rail had informed them that they would be launching an investigation into why the contractors had overran.
