A CYCLIST who collided with a bus on a busy St Albans road this morning escaped with only a twisted ankle.

The incident occurred just before 11am on Watford Road near Savoy Mews, when a bus travelling towards Chiswell Green crashed into a cyclist who was on the other side of the road pedalling towards St Albans.

PC Tony Saunders, who was called to the scene, confirmed that the cyclist, an elderly man, had fully recovered from the incident.

He added: "There are a lot of accidents on this stretch of road because it's much narrower than it used to be. When the new development Savoy Mews was built, the pavement was widened and the road made narrower. You can see how much bigger the road used to be from the position of the old faded road markings.
