Volunteer Centre manager, Alicia McMorrow, is getting on her bike today to raise funds for young volunteering in the St Albans district.

Alicia and her friend Andy Brookman are taking part in the Coast 2 Coast Ride for Youth from Whitehaven to Tynemouth which finishes on Sunday.

She is the Volunteer Centre manager at St Albans CVS based in The Hub at St Albans Civic Centre. She said that there was increased interest in volunteering from young people but local groups, whether for insurance purposes or resource reasons, were seldom equipped to take on 14-25 year olds.

The growing interest has increased the need for greater promotion of youth volunteering and to expand the range of opportunities available to the young. One way of doing so would be to run another youth awards event such as the one held last March, but to do so the service needed more funds.

Alicia and Andy are riding the Coast 2 Coast to strengthen awareness of youth volunteering and in a bid to raise at least £1,000.
