A BUSY road was closed this morning (Tuesday) following an accident involving a car and a bus.

Police were called to the scene in Hatfield Road, south west of the Smallford roundabout, at around 9.15am.

A Uno single-decker bus had been in collision with a silver Volvo S60, leaving the woman driver, thought to be in her 30s, trapped in the car and having to be cut free by firefighters and taken to hospital.

Duty ambulance operations manager Tabatha Saunders, who attended the scene, said: “St Albans paramedics treated and stabilised the woman in the car, before removing her on a spinal board as a precautionary measure. She was then taken to the QE11 hospital in Welwyn Garden City.”

The driver of the bus and his passengers were uninjured.

Police closed the road until just after 11am while recovery took place.
