A ROAD was closed for more than 12 hours on Tuesday following a car accident in which power line poles were knocked down.

Two cars collided along Shenley Lane in London Colney, at the junction with Bell Lane, just after midday.

A 41-year-old man from St Albans in a red Toyota Carina was taken to hospital along with a man in his 70s from London Colney, who was driving a silver Mercedes.

Firefighters were called to the scene and had to cut one of the drivers out of the vehicle but neither casualty was seriously injured.

The road remained closed until 1am on Wednesday morning as the electricity company had to reinstate the poles and power supplies.
