POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two women were injured in a car crash that resulted in a busy road being closed for almost three hours on Monday morning.
The accident on the Wheathampstead section of Lower Luton Road happened just after 9am when a red Rover 45 driven by a 53-year-old woman from Harpenden, was involved in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 47-year-old woman from Harpenden.
Police closed the road between the Batford roundabout and Station Road in Harpenden until shortly before midday.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said both drivers were taken to the QE2 hospital in Welwyn Garden City, one suffering from chest injuries and the other with abdominal and shoulder injuries.
