AN ACCIDENT which happened after a driver sped away from a police car caused traffic chaos on a busy dual-carriageway this afternoon (Wednesday).
Police were originally called to the A405 in Park Street at around 2.30pm where a gipsy horse and cart were holding up the traffic.
But when the driver of a blue Skoda spotted the police car he sped off and collided with a Hyundai along the stretch of the road between the Tippendell Lane roundabout and the Noke roundabout.
The man driving the Skoda and his female passenger then leapt out of the car and ran away from the scene of the accident which happened on the southbound carriageway.
The police helicopter was scrambled in an attempt to trace the suspects but by the time we went to press no-one had been arrested.
