A HEAD-ON car crash at a crossroads in St Albans blocked the junction causing long tailbacks at lunchtime today (Friday).
The accident happened at around 2pm when a white Citroën AX was in collision with a red Vauxhall Nova at the junction of Beaconsfield Road/Hatfield Road/Lemsford Road by Loreto College.
Traffic began to queue along Hatfield Road while the drivers of the crashed cars waited for recovery vehicles to arrive.
A police spokesperson said that traffic built up as drivers tried to get round the accident.
