Mihaeza Agoua: 40, of Rothamsted Manor House, Harpenden, was fined £660 plus £151 costs and was awarded eight penalty points for driving without insurance in High Street, Harpenden, on January 3.

Gazi Ali: 48, of Gorham Drive, St Albans, was fined £220 plus £107 costs and was awarded three penalty points for speeding at 37mph along the 30mph A5183 Frogmore, south of Brinsmead, St Albans, on January 4.

Marc Jason: 34, of Beningfield Drive, St Albans, was fined £660 plus £151 costs and was awarded six penalty points for failing to disclose the identity of the motorist using his vehicle when it was involved in an offence, at Stevenage between January 21 and February 18.

Jessica Seagreen: 39, of Pasture View, Oaklands Lane, Smallford, was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £120 plus £115 costs after giving a breath specimen of 71mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in Pasture View, St Albans, on July 28.

Danielle Lee: 20, of Abbots Avenue West, St Albans, was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £230 plus £115 costs after giving a breath specimen of 67mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in Manor Road, St Albans, on June 28. She was fined a further £230 for driving without insurance or a licence on the same date and location.

Grant Weston: 24, of Waldegrave Park, Harpenden, was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £360 plus £121 costs after giving a breath specimen of 69mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in West Common, Harpenden, on July 9.

Warren Smith: 40, of Carlton Road, Harpenden, was fined £220 plus £37.50 vehicle excise back duty and £90 costs after keeping an unlicensed vehicle on a public road, namely the A414 Breakspear Way, Hemel Hempstead, on January 20.

Linda Colman: 67, of Roundwood Lane, Harpenden, was fined £960 plus £196 costs after failing to disclose to St Albans district council full and accurate details of Stella Florence Archer’s capital, with a view to obtaining Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit, between February 1-15 2012.

Gavin Lendon: 49, of Lords Meadow, Redbourn, was fined £200 plus £115 costs after being the owner of a dog which worried livestock, namely cows, on agricultural land situation at Redbournbury Farm, Redbournbury Lane, St Albans, on May 25.

Laura Spinks: 43, of Westfields, St Albans, was fined £120 plus £230 costs after being found drunk in charge of a child under the age of seven, at Burger King in Hemel Hempstead on May 4.

Samuel Halmshaw: 27, of Oysterfields, St Albans, was ordered to have treatment for alcohol dependency for six months, was made subject to a restraining order lasting until January 27 2018, and was ordered to pay £170 costs after using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a belief that immediate unlawful violence would be used, for conveying a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety, and for sending a grossly offensive or indecent, obscene or menacing message using a public electronic communications network, at Hatfield on June 9.

Barry Ings: 29, of Martins Close, Radlett, was ordered to carry out 140 hours unpaid community work and pay £170 costs after being in possession of a knife in Martins Close, Radlett, on July 8, and for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a belief that immediate unlawful violence would be used against them.

Thomas Lamb: 32, of Milton Road, Harpenden, was committed to prison for six weeks suspended for 12 months, ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid community work, and instructed to pay £195 costs after sending voicemails and text messages which conveyed a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient, between June 29 and July 1 at Harpenden.

Andrew Ward: 31, of Arthur Road, St Albans, was committed to prison for 16 weeks suspended for two years, ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid community work, and was told to pay £500 compensation and £700 costs after assaulting a woman by beating at St Albans on August 21 2015 and January 1, and a different woman on August 21 2015.

Kevin McGuire: 44, of Saxon Road, Wheathampstead, was fined £90 plus £640 costs for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, causing harassment, alarm or distress, in Wheathampstead on February 18.

I should probably have taken the hint! Walking out into the garden recently an unprecedented flock of thirty or more crows raucously greeted me from the treetops at the bottom of my garden. Cawing and croaking these big, black birds clung clumsily to the top most branches and twigs, jostling and flapping to stay balanced in a constant flurry of feathers. There is always something ominous about crows – they are after all carrion crows, the vultures of the bird world – always watching for scraps and weakness that might mean their next meal.
