George Rolfe: 20, of Cravells Road, Harpenden, was banned from driving for 22 months and fined £110 plus £105 costs after giving a breath specimen of 86mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in Piggotshill Lane, Harpenden on July 19.

Kevin Rowe: 33, of Eastcote Drive, Harpenden, was committed to prison for 20 weeks suspended for 12 months, ordered to participate in a drink impaired drivers course for 14 days, pay £165 costs and was banned from driving for 42 months after giving a breath speciment of 107mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in Grove Road, Harpenden, on July 15.

Grzegorz Galus: 32, of White Hedge Drive, St Albans, was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £450 plus £130 costs after giving a breath specimen of 57mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, in St Albans Road, Redbourn, on July 9.

NICOLA PIKE: 29, of West Common Way, Harpenden, was fined £200 plus £105 costs and was awarded three penalty points for stopping her vehicle in a zebra-controlled area on the High Street at Welwyn Garden City on March 7.

Ian Morgan: 35, of Windmill Avenue, St Albans, was fined £165 and awarded three penalty points after using a handheld mobile phone while driving along St Albans Road, Watford, on February 3.

Liam Gow: 25, of Tallents Crescent, Harpenden, was fined £200 plus £105 costs and awarded three penalty points after speeding at 36mph along the 30mph Lower Luton Road, Harpenden, on January 25.

Robert Kent: 58, of Harpenden Road, St Albans, was fined £235 plus £108 costs and was awarded three penalty points for speeding at 36mph along the 30mph Lower Luton Road, Harpenden, on January 26.

Edward Kirby: 55, of Hyde View Road, Harpenden, was fined £600 plus £145 costs and awarded six penalty points after failing to reveal the identity of the driver using his vehicle when an offence was committed, between February 4-March 4.

Roselynn Wilson: 37, of Gustard Wood, Wheathampstead, was fined £55 plus £105 costs and awarded three penalty points for speeding at 38mph along the 30mph Lower Luton Road, Harpenden, on January 28.

Michael Haye: 40, of How Wood, Park Street, was fined £600 plus £145 costs and was banned from driving for six months due to repeat offendng after driving without insurance along Mosquito Way, Hatfield, on June 11 2013.

Carol Cross: 32, of Marford Road, Wheathampstead, was fined £200 plus £105 costs and awarded three penalty points after using a handheld mobile phone while driving along Brewhouse Hill, Wheatham-pstead, on January 30.

Andrea Cogoni: 25, of Cotlandswick, London Colney, was fined £30 plus £105 costs for driving without insurance on the A405 at St Albans on December 3.

Naveed Rehman: 2, of Mercers Row, St Albans, was fined £40 plus £20 costs and awarded three penalty points for speeding at 40mph along the 30mph A411 Barnet Lane, Elstree, on October 14 2011.

JAMIE GELACIO: 20, of Reed Close, London Colney, was fined £800 plus £145 costs and awarded eight penalty points after driving without insurance or a licence along Caledon Road, London Colney on February 7.

Anthony Moss: 47, of Lodge End, Radlett, was fined £700 plus £155 costs and awarded six penalty points for speeding at 71mph along the 40mph A41 North Western Avenue, Watford, on January 10.

Valgard Valgardsson: 33, of Radlett Park Road, Radlett, was fined £135 plus £105 costs and was awarded three penalty points for using a handheld mobile phone while driving along Watling Street, Radlett, on January 27.

James Darby: 33, of Heath Road, St Albans, was fined £265 plus £112 costs and was awarded six penalty points for speeding in excess of 40mph along the A41 North Western Avenue at Watford on January 25.

Dominic Slatter: 33, of Charrington Close, Shenley, was fined £100 plus £105 costs and awarded three penalty points after speeding at 37mph along the 30mph M556 Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, on January 25.

Steven McGinty: 32, of Hatfield Road, St Albans, was fined £40 plus £20 costs and awarded three penalty points for using a handheld mobile phone while driving along Barnet Road, London Colney, on January 13.

Terry Allen: 54, of Tassell Hall, Redbourn, was fined £200 plus £015 costs and awarded three penalty points for driving along the M1 southbounds between J6-5 while using a handheld mobile phone on January 26.

Robert Boden: 55, of Cottonmill Crescent, St Albans, was fined £200 plus £105 costs and awarded three penalty points for driving at 47mph along the 40mph A414 St Albans Road at Hemel Hempstead on January 21.

Brendan Sharkey: 58, of Watling Street, St Albans, was fined £200 plus £1055 costs and was awarded three penalty points for speeding at 40mph along the 30mph A5183 Park Street, St Albans, on December 20.

Sheila Mutembei: 30, of Harris Lane, Shenley, was fined £360 plus £121 costs and awarded six penalty points for driving without insurance along London Road, Shenley, on December 14.

I should probably have taken the hint! Walking out into the garden recently an unprecedented flock of thirty or more crows raucously greeted me from the treetops at the bottom of my garden. Cawing and croaking these big, black birds clung clumsily to the top most branches and twigs, jostling and flapping to stay balanced in a constant flurry of feathers. There is always something ominous about crows – they are after all carrion crows, the vultures of the bird world – always watching for scraps and weakness that might mean their next meal.
