THE COUNTRY's top money man Mervyn King was in St Albans yesterday (Wednesday) to join members of Herts Chamber of Commerce for lunch.
Mr King, Governor of the Bank of England, was at Sopwell House as part of a whistlestop visit to Herts and Bucks during which he also held a breakfast meeting and visited businesses.
After lunch at the hotel, he spoke to the 200-plus guests at Sopwell House about what had gone wrong in the financial system and what more needed to be done to get the economy back on track.
He then answered questions from the floor before moving on to his next engagement.
