A SPORTING county councillor has pitched in with some much-needed funds for Harpenden Town Football Club.
Cllr Teresa Heritage has granted 3,250 to the club for the essential repairs of the floodlights and showers. The money, which comes from Cllr Heritage's locality budget, will also be used to cut back the hedges surrounding the pitch to help prevent balls from being lost.
Cllr Heritage said that she was keen to support the club: "It's a much loved and important community facility and I'm particularly impressed with the way it bridges the gap between junior and senior football, providing teenagers with an enjoyable way of keeping fit and healthy."
Chris Gregory, who is in charge of community development at the football club, said that the grant was "invaluable" and added: "We couldn't have afforded the repairs to the floodlights without the money, which could have resulted in not being able to play in the leagues. This grant has ensured our status for the immediate future.
