A city from each of the home counties has been shortlisted by Monopoly ‘games’ chiefs’ to have its own board, and St Albans currently lies third in the poll.

Monopoly is asking people to vote for what town or city they want to see made into the iconic board game, but Guildford and Windsor are currently beating St Albans to the top spot.

The Surrey representative has 48.6 per cent of the vote and Windsor 23.1 per cent, with St Albans lagging behind with 11.2 per cent.

Other places shortlisted are Marlow, which is hot on the heels of St Albans with 10.3 per cent, Cranbrook and Epping Forrest.

The game is being made by Winning Moves UK, under licence from Monopoly owners Hasbro. James Lamont, custom games development executive at Winning Moves UK, said: “Each are proving very strong contenders. We began with more than 30 locations. These are the final six. “

The game will go into production before the end of the year and will showcase iconic landmarks from the winning location with the cathedral tipped for Mayfair’s spot.

Votes should be emailed to homecounties@winningmoves.co.uk or sent by post to Home Counties Monopoly, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London, W2 1NP. Polls close at midnight on March 18.

The winner is set to be announced in the spring.
