A MANAGEMENT contract between the district council and the company which will be running the new Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre was signed last week.

The contract is with Sports and Leisure Management Limited (SLM) which operates under the Everyone Active brand, and runs nearly 80 facilities for 24 local authorities including East Herts District Council and Watford Borough Council.

Cllr Mike Wakely, the council’s portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage, said: “Signing the management contract today moves us another step forward in this big infrastructure project. Despite a number of issues with our power suppliers, Power On, we are on track to open the new leisure centre in November. Residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying the great new facilities.”

The leisure centre project is costing the council approximately 25 million and includes two pools, a four-court sports hall, a 200-station fitness and youth gym, a children’s soft play area and a caf/bistro.

Once the new leisure centre opens, the current Westminster Lodge centre will close.
