Agony aunt Penelope Pritchett - aka local comedian Vicky Arlidge - is joining Radio Verulam this autumn to help solve problems for the people of St Albans.

She will appearing on Fridays between 6-7pm on West Herts Drivetime with Danny Smith.

“She is a perfect housewife,” says Vicky, “Or at least she thinks she is. She is a lady of a certain age and is not afraid to speak her mind. She can be a bit of a snob, admitting that she’ll happily shop at Poundland but draws the line at the 99p store, which she finds ‘a little too cheap’.”

No subject is off limits and Penelope is not afraid to talk about delicate subjects such as her weak pelvic floor: “You know, I had a call from a lawyer chap the other day. He asked me if I’d recently had an accident that wasn’t my fault. I said I couldn’t help it, I just sneezed.”

Tips for entertaining guests are a favourite, particularly for a more middle-aged crowd. “For my favourite cocktail mix vodka, sherry and ovaltine. That one is called “Has anyone seen my libido?”

Vicky Arlidge’s performances as a musical comedian have reached over 50,000 YouTube hits. In 2013 her Edinburgh Fringe show was nominated for the Funny Women Best Show Award. In 2014 she reached the heats of the BBC New Comedy Award and the semi-finals of both the Funny Women and Golden Jester Awards. She is also a regular performer at Glastonbury. When not performing, Vicky composes for TV and theatre and teaches music. “From this September I will be teaching ukulele to over 150 children in St Albans each week!”

“I’m really thrilled to be collaborating with Danny,” she adds, “Penelope is a character that I’m growing to love more and more. I think my favourite parts of the show will be the radio phone ins. I may well find it hard to keep a straight face myself!’

“I am delighted to be welcoming Penelope and her years of experience to the show. I am sure her wisdom will go some way in improving the well-being of the people of St Albans,” added Danny.
