NEWLY-merged charity Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care (IRGH) is inviting everyone to help beat the winter blues by holding special Come Dine at Mine events in their own homes.

The aim of the brand new fundraising initiative, loosely inspired by the hit TV series Come Dine With Me, is to help raise money to support local families across the region.

People are being encouraged to devise their own recipe for success by creating an event at home for their friends and/or family.

IRGH community fundraiser Louise Hewitt explained: “We really don’t mind how you organise your event. You are the people who know what your friends and family will enjoy. Maybe you could host a one-pot supper and ask for a donation or you could hold a Christmas or New Year party and invite people to donate money – perhaps to make a New Year’s resolution. You could even run a contest along the lines of Come Dine with Me with a group of friends each hosting a dinner and paying a fee to take part. The winner gets their money back and the rest is donated to IRGH.

She went on: “Alternatively you could award pounds for points. The world really is your oyster but it should be a really great way to have a good time but raise money too.”

Urging people to dig out their cookbooks, put on their pinnies and think about what they could do to help local families, she said: “Through our 24/7 nursing care, the facilities in our day hospice and the support services we provide both for patients and families, we make it possible for patients diagnosed with life-limiting illness to make the choice to be cared for at home surrounded by their loved ones.

Louise added: “It’s really fitting that by gathering your friends and family around you and having fun while raising money, you can also help other local families stay together for as long as possible. Please do join us and support this really important fundraising initiative.”

The fundraising team is happy to speak to anyone who would like some other ideas but equally, anyone coming up with a great idea is asked to share it either through the IRGH Facebook Pages (Iain Rennie Hospice at Home or Grove House) or e-mail the fundraising team at fundraising@irgh.org
