HOUSES in a village road which falls just outside the confines of St Albans could find themselves transferred into the district if proposed boundary changes go ahead.

Even-numbered properties in Franklin Close, Colney Heath, fall within the Welwyn-Hatfield council area and that has meant parents living there with secondary age children have been offered places at Onslow St Audrey’s School in Hatfield even though they had opted for St Albans schools.

County councillor for The Colneys, Chris Brazier, said that on a number of occasions he had joined parents at appeal hearings to try to get places at St Albans schools.

He said: “I have been pushing to bring Franklin Close into Colney Heath so that parents have a choice of schools in St Albans rather than being given places at schools in Hatfield.

“Franklin Close is the most affected road in the village but there is also Roestock Gardens where the houses are in Colney Heath and the gardens in Hatfield.”

Both Franklin Close and Roestock Gardens are the subject of consultation by the Boundary Commission and will be making final recommendations in the autumn.

The district council’s licensing and regulatory committee will be considering its draft recommendations at a meeting next Thursday, July 7.
