COLNEY HEATH: A village Cubs group has failed to replace outgoing leaders despite searching desperately for seven months.

Amanda Furlong, group treasurer of Colney Heath Cubs, has issued a plea for new leaders to step forward as Marinella Sinagoga and Andrew Hall intend stepping down after 10 years in the role at the end of this term.

Amanda, who thanked the pair for their “great” work with the village’s 16 Cubs, aged from eight to 10-and-a-half, said: “They feel they have given all they can to the pack and are moving on with other things.”

However if they can’t be replaced, parents face having to put their children’s names on waiting lists to attend St Albans’ Cub packs and, if successful, an inconvenient trek into the city.

Amanda said: “It’s a problem. We have not been able to run Scouts [either] in Colney Heath for four years because of a lack of leaders. We would love to have two leaders, even once a month.”

The role requires a “willingness to take responsibility and organise fun things for young people.”

Cub parents have been approached, and while they are willing to support the leaders, none are keen to take on the role permanently.
