Some pupils have claimed that fire alarms failed to sound when a blaze broke out in their school today (Thursday).
The fire at Verulam School in St Albans started at around11.30am this morning and two teenage boys, believed to be pupils, were arrested on suspicion of arson.
A number of students have contacted the Herts Advertiser with claims that the fire alarms were not set off.
One of them said: "My class was alerted by a frantic student who burst into the classroom telling us there was a real fire."
But the fire crews who attended the scene did commend the school for getting all of the students out safely before they arrived to tackle the fire.
