The winners of an annual St Albans Christmas lights competition have been revealed.

For the last seven years residents of Alexandra, Inkerman, Bedford and Alma Road have competed against each other by decorating their homes in a rainbow of lights and decorations, and this year they ran an online vote where people chose their favourites and donated to a chosen charity.

Donations supported the Trussell Trust, a nationwide network of food banks, and raised in excess of £700.

The residents of 27 Alexandra Road have been crowned the winner of the 2020 Christmas Lights competition and will receive the Christmas Lights trophy and a prize. The runner-up was 1 Inkerman Road who will also receive a prize for their efforts.

Organiser Lizzie Singer said: “Thank you to our neighbours for taking part in the competition this year, for raising over £700 for charity and for voting for your winning house. We’ve been able to host this competition exclusively online to safeguard our residents but to ensure this fun tradition has been able to keep going during a difficult year.”
