A COLLECTION for the BBC Children in Need Appeal will take place tomorrow, Friday November 16, at St Albans station.

Whether it has been cold, dark, raining or snowing in mid-November members of the Rotary Club of St Albans Priory have been at the railway station in the city centre, during morning rush hour, collecting for Children in Need over the past 17 years.

Taking their very own Pudsey bear, and wearing high-visibility jackets and smiles on their faces, the Rotarians have collected more than 10,000 for the charity, with money raised going towards helping children in local areas, be it for hospices, respite care or even a great day out.

Rotary clubs are the official partner of BBC Children in Need for a second year and clubs across Britain and Ireland are determined to break the fundraising record of 100,000 set in 2011.

Simon Armstrong, spokesman for St Albans Priory, said: “Everyone in St Albans gives tremendous support to local causes and I know everyone will be out in force.

“It is fantastic that we have joined up with BBC Children in Need once more as a national partner to help disadvantaged children across the country. Rotary is very much for children and communities so this is a natural link for both organisations.”

The BBC Children in Need Appeal night is also tomorrow, Friday, November 16, and promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Appeal show is an entire evening of entertainment on BBC One with celebrities singing, dancing, and doing all sorts of crazy things to help raise money.

The charity event provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged.
