Children are invited to learn about local history and dress up as medieval pilgrims at St Albans Cathedral.
The Cathedral is holding a free half term family discovery morning, Jolly Journeys, on Thursday, May 31, aimed at children between the ages of three and 12.
Children will dress as medieval pilgrims and explore why people chose St Albans as a religious destination. On their journey around the Cathedral, children can make their own pilgrim badges and retrace the footsteps of thousands of pilgrims as they hear stories of past journeys to the Cathedral.
Steve Clarke, education officer at St Albans Cathedral, said: “Travelling to new places can be an exciting experience, and people have been making jolly journeys to St Albans for hundreds of years!
“Our family event will make a connection from the earliest pilgrims to modern day tourists.”
The morning also coincides with the build up to the annual Alban Pilgrimage through the streets of the city, which will take place on Saturday, June 23.
The pilgrimage puppets used on the day are already on display at the Cathedral.
