THE daughter of a former St Albans councillor and businessman who died from an incurable lung disease has set up a fund to raise awareness of the disease.

David Evans died in October 2008 after being diagnosed with Lung Fibrosis in April of that year and his daughter, Amanda Evans, has now set up the David Evans Breath of Life Fund in conjunction with the British Lung Foundation.

Amanda, 38, is hoping to continually raise cash for the cause by completing lots of different physical challenges with a group of friends and family members. Last month, nine of them took part in the Great North Run and they are all now training for the New York Marathon in November.

She said: “Not very much is known about the disease and it’s really important to me and my family that we raise awareness of lung fibrosis and raise money to fund research into this incurable disease.”

Her father, who liked to be known as D Evans, was a popular character in the local area and eventually went on to become the MP for Welwyn and Hatfield. He was also the chairman of Luton Town FC from 1984-1989 and built up an office and street-cleaning business.
