Two local charities finished neck and neck when they were presented with a donation from the organisers of a successful race night.
The Harpenden Trust and the Southdown Play Areas Working Group received cheques totalling £500 each as a result of a William Hill race night held in aid of the Mayor’s charities.
The donation from the betting company was made over and above the £2,650 raised from the charities, both supported by Harpenden Town Mayor, Cllr Brian Ellis.
He said: “William Hill really made a difference to the success of the evening and their support was much appreciated.
“It was fantastic to know that the large sum of £2,650 was raised for my charities from the race night but to receive an additional £1000 to be shared between the charities was a real bonus.”
