CD Review: Rihanna - Rated R

DESPITE being one of America’s top selling singers, Barbadian-born R & B artist, Rihanna’s lot is not a happy one.

DESPITE being one of America’s top selling singers, Barbadian-born R & B artist, Rihanna’s lot is not a happy one.

Having famously invited listeners to stand under her Umbrella, then taken them on a tour of Disturbia, pop’s Good Girl Gone Bad is not very cheery in her latest album, Rated R.

From informing us that she’ll “lick the gun when I’m done” on G4L, to her assertion that “what you did to me was a crime” on Cold Case Killer, this album is bubbling with anger.

But there is also a softer and less angry side to it. Russian Roulette, Rude Boy and Te Amo are all instantly catchy R & B songs full of emotion.
