The incident took place around 12.15am on Wednesday, May 22, when thieves wearing orange hi-vis jackets entered the station through the main car park next to platform one.

They went into the station booking hall and tried to cut into the cash machine but after struggling to gain entry left empty handed.

It is thought they were at the station for around 30 minutes and headed off via the footbridge in the direction of Beaumont Gate before getting into a vehicle parked nearby.

The group were also clad in white hard hats, dust face masks and carrying two yellow safety cones.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Alan Bardsley said: “If you have any information about the incident, or saw any suspicious activity in and around the station in the hours leading up to the incident, I’d urge you to come forward and assist police in this investigation.”
