The Pasque Hospice was awarded �500 towards the continued provision of inpatient and day care, community nursing and therapy services for children and their families.

The Friends of Alzey were awarded �361 to fund students joining future trips to Germany and for a publicity banner to raise awareness of the friends.

The town council gave �200 to the St Albans Diocese for their climate change conference at Rothamsted Conference Centre.

A grant of �200 was also awarded to the local Samaritans to assist them in operating in their call centre, which provides a listening service for those who are suffering periods of distress of despair.

Chairman of the committee, councillor Michael Weaver said: "These groups do a lot of good for residents, and it is by supporting them that the town achieves real benefits.
