A MINI was set alight as it was parked on a St Albans driveway in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

The blaze inside the red car, which broke out at about 5am along Thirlmere Drive, was put out by a quick-thinking passer-by with a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters said that his actions meant that only the interior of the car was badly damaged.

A police spokesperson said the culprits smashed the driver's side window and set fire to the upholstery by unknown means.
